Electrical Theory Exam

The Electrical Theory Exam will be on Wednesday15th as discussed in class last week.
Those who pass it first time around won't need to come to electrical theory (Monday and Thursday mornings) for the rest of the semester. Those who don't make >=75% will need to keep coming and we will get into some serious revision prior to the resit attempts.
Remember you are permitted up to 3 attempts at a theory assessment. However if you don't turn up to an advertised exam - that is counted as a failed attempt.
Happy studying.

Making electricity

Today we looked at different ways of making electricity.
Heat uses the thermoelectric effect between two different metals.

The chemical method (used in batteries) utilizes the movement of ions through a liquid.
In this case we used potatoes.

Creative Summary Display

The way to show that we can work together as a team is to work together as a team.

So in teams of 3 or 4 we are putting together a summary of
one of the areas that we have learned about so far.
This not only achieves the above but also helps us
summarize our learning and really get to the essence of the subject.

HERE is a video of the above group planning out their summary.

Monday's Vector Experiment

Well the great vector experiment didn't go as planned.
I think that because of the 3-dimensional nature of it there must be another calculation that we need to add in as well.
However, the main point was that you cannot just add the vector quantities.

So here we are measuring vectors.

Go HERE  to see the small video of us doing it.

Go HERE for the Quantities Revision 2 answers that we did on the smart board.

Welcome to the course

Hi and welcome.
An old saying is that...
"If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long!"
Your "FROG" is the one thing that you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don't do something about it now!
It is also the one task that can have the greatest positive impact on your life and results at the moment.

You must continually remind yourself that one of the most important decisions you make each day is your choice of what you will do immediately and what you will do later --- if you do it at all!
(from: Simple Truths, Eat that Frog. by Brian Tracy)

Somewhere between Elat and El Gorah, Sinai, Egypt.
When I was a bit younger and a lot fitter (or mayby that should be - a lot younger and a bit fitter) I enjoyed jogging 10 to 15 and sometimes even 20km per day. The hardest part of any run was always putting my running shoes on.
Once they were on and I had stepped out the door the rest was easy.
I never stopped during a run, no matter the weather or terrain.
However a few times I let the lazy part of me put the run off until later on in the day and then of course I never got around to it at all.

If sometime during the next 30 weeks you find yourself making excuses for not coming or studying later or leaving that assignment until the weekend ...
Eat that frog; put your shoes on and take the first step, the rest is easy.

Enjoy
Regards
Philip
